GO LISTEN BOISE presents GRAND OL' TIME, an old-time music series and square dance, Sept. 10 at the LINEN BUILDING

Monthly series features acoustic roots music and full-tilt square dance

JAMES COBERLY SMITH, JOHNNY SHOES AND THE RHYTHM RANGERS, HOKUM HI-FLYERS to perform at fifth event in six-part series

Go Listen Boise, in partnership with the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, The Boise Weekly, Linen Building and The Record Exchange, will host Grand Ol' Time, a monthly old-time music series and square dance, at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the Linen Building, 1402 W. Grove St. in Downtown Boise's Linen District. $5 per person, $20 per family. All ages, full bar (I.D. required).

Grand Ol' Time is an old-time series with the intent of introducing our community to this thriving music genre. String bands and acoustic acts are exciting audiences worldwide, and we think that the Boise music scene is ready for an introduction to this style of music.

By encompassing two other local acts in addition to the square dance, Grand Ol' Time hopes to draw a wide variety of people (young, old, families, hipsters, live music fans, folk dancing fans) and expose audiences to a wide variety of live and local entertainment. Hokum Hi-Flyers will once again host the square dance, complete with experienced dance calling and a diverse assortment of traditional folk dance and string band tunes.

Each evening in this six-month series features a variety of two acoustic acts, followed by the Hokum Hi-Flyers, who will put on a full-tilt square dance. The first four Grand Ol' Time shows, held May 14, June 11, July 16 and Aug. 6, were a smashing success. The event was well attended by people of all ages, and the audience enthusiastically learned and danced to six different types of group dancing.

The Sept. 10 lineup is comprised of James Coberly Smith, Johnny Shoes and the Rhythm Rangers and the Hokum Hi-Flyers. Honorary Member of Hokum, Dorothy Shue, will call the square dances while the boys pluck and saw. We are anticipating another night of high-spirited music and dancing.

Delicious local food will be available for purchase outside at the Boise Fry Company truck, the best dressed truck in Boise (with the best dressed burgers and fries inside)! Also, T-shirts will be available for sale in support of the event, printed by local screen-printing company and music supporters Deadwood Designs.
